Digital Point Properties

Use the Digital page to configure digital properties for a particular point. The Digital page is shown when the point type is set to Digital Input or Digital Output in the General page.

Digital Properties

These are the properties shown on the Digital page in the PNT Editor. See also the ALARMSET security event for more information.

Select the alarm category for the point. Click to select a table entry. The entry comes from the PNTALCAT table.

Enables or disables suppression of alarms for the point and the suppression ending condition(s). Click to configure Alarm Suppression.

Digital conversion

Convert on (non-zero) values to

Specifies the string to which the digital value will be converted when the bit is set. Option is free-form text up to 16 characters.

If you want the point’s value to be 0 or 1, type 0 or 1 as the string.

Specifies the string to which the digital value will be converted when the bit is not set. Option is free-form text up to 16 characters.

Enables the alarm bit. Options are 0 (No) or 1 (Yes). The alarm bit can be enabled without the Report Alarms flag set.

In the CygNet Standard Point Scheme, the alarms correspond to the following bits and alarm calculation types:

Note: The alarms Chattering and Digital Warning are shown for backwards compatibility. These alarms are not based on a calculation type and are not calculated by the CVS. They merely represent bits 02 and 05, respectively. The alarms can only be enabled and set through an external application or script; however, you must set the reporting and notification options using the PNT Editor. See Digital Points.

Specify the priority of the point’s alarms. Option is 0 to 99, with 99 being the highest.

In the CygNet Standard Point Scheme (0), alarm priorities are categorized as follows:

  • 0 — 24 Low
  • 25 — 49 Medium
  • 50 — 74 High
  • 75 — 99 Critical

Report To CAS

Select to reporting point alarms to the Common Alarm Service (CAS). Options are 0 (No) or 1 (Yes). The individual alarm bits must be enabled.

Report To GNS

Select to report point alarms to the General Notification Service (GNS), which will send notifications when an alarm bit is set/reset. Options are 0 (No) or 1 (Yes). The individual alarm bits must be enabled.

GNS ID

Select the ID of the GNS record to use for the notification regarding the alarm. The record type must be "Event" or "Unspecified." Click to select a GNS ID. See Configuring a GNS Record for information about setting up GNS IDs.

Delay Reporting

Select to delay reporting of the alarm to the CAS or to the GNS for some period of time to see if the point goes out of alarm. Options are 0 (No) or 1 (Yes). The individual alarm bits must be enabled.

Delay Value

Specify the amount of time to delay reporting alarms or processing notifications. The countdown begins when the alarm bit gets set. When set, that delay time governs all delay times for the point. Click … to enter the reporting delay value.

The format is as follows:

  • hh:mm:ss (for values up to 18 hours: 0-17 hours, 0-59 minutes, 0-59 seconds)
  • DD:hh:mm (for values up to 40 days: 0-39 days, 0-23 hours, 0-59 minutes)
  • Y:DDD:hh (for values up to 7 years: 0-6 years, 0-364 days, 0-23 hours)

Enhanced Alarm Configuration

Enhanced Alarm Configuration (EAC) expands the CygNet alarm rules to allow a user to extend the conditions by which a configurable status bit is allowed to be set or prevented from being set. When a configurable bit is prevented from being set, any subsequent alarms or notifications that would have been generated are prevented as well. EAC conditions are defined as a series of logical expressions that reference real-time values of the same point or multiple other points. However, all points referenced must reside in the same Common Value Service (CVS) as the point being configured. EAC conditions may contain up to 50 individual expressions, each of which could reference a separate point. The enhanced alarm configuration is available from the PNT Editor's Alarm Settings (Analog, Digital, Enumeration, String) pages.
